Defending the Big Ten
by Dave & Emily on Apr.02, 2009, under Fun Stuff, Sports
Sorry for the MSU-heavy content lately, but it’s an exciting time for a Spartan fan! I recently found this video of Tom Izzo showing a little frustration for the media not giving the Big Ten any love. People rip the conference for its style of play and low scoring, but actually there has been Big Ten representation in 7 of the last 11 Final Fours, including this year. (MSU went to 5 of those) That’s pretty solid!
Heading to Detroit!

Congratulations to the Michigan State Spartans for making it to the Final Four in Detroit. They played a great game on Sunday and basically shut down overall No. 1 seed Louisville in the second half. Tom Izzo had the right game plan and they executed it very well. Once again proving he’s one of the greatest coaches in college basketball (ever, in my opinion). Sparty on!

Congratulations to Michigan State’s basketball team for (another) job well done! Their first Big Ten title since 2001 and out-right title since ‘99. A good showing in the Big Ten tourney should be the next phase, and then a trip to Detroit in early April?…that would be nice!
Motor City Breakdown

For the Pistons fans out there, this has definitely been a disappointing season so far. There were a lot of changes this year, and it’s questionable if any of them really worked. John Hollinger of ESPN.com wrote an article that breaks down why this team is having such a tough time this year. You may not agree with everything he writes, but it sure leaves some question marks for the future. Did Joe Dumars mess this one up, or is he just preparing for the next couple years when they will be able to spend some money on free agents? Here’s the article:
Looking at five major questions surroundings the Pistons’ plunge this season
It goes to figure that on the same day this article came out, the Pistons’ go down to Orlando and beat a pretty good Magic team, without the help of Allen Iverson. Interesting…

Can’t wait for the ‘madness’ in March

A quick interruption from the Isabella pictures for an MSU post…
Both football AND basketball in one year…wow…sorry Wolverine fans. Good B-ball game, but it looks like MSU is on their way to another high seed in March, while the legion of “Maize Rage” is on the bubble. The Spartans have six more games to go, including Purdue twice (which is their next game on Feb. 17th and their last game on March 8th) and hopefully a Big Ten title will follow shortly after!
Give ‘em some butter because they’re on a roll!

The MSU basketball team is playing great, and have a 9-game winning streak going (since the NC blowout). That’s includes a win over then #5 Texas, two tough road games to start Big Ten conference play and a big win today over defending national champion Kansas. Solid stuff!
About time, Sparty!

I’m glad that Tom Izzo & Co. found a way to get a couple of wins after that bad North Carolina loss. This last one was a strong one…I mean STRONG one. Now let’s get about 5 more strong ones in a row (which should be viable, as long as they can beat Texas!)
